Simona Halep continued her impressive run of form as she brushed aside Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2 6-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup.

The Romanian, who has now won nine matches in a row since the start of her Wimbledon run, did not drop a service game as she eased to victory in Toronto.

Currently at world number four in the rankings, Halep broke early in the first set to race into a 3-0 lead and could not be hauled back as a second break secured a comfortable 6-2 in the opener.

And she picked up where she left off at the start of the second, winning nine of the last 11 games to breeze into the last eight.

The Wimbledon champion has won the Rogers Cup in two of the last three years - 2016 and 2018 - beating Sloane Stephens in last year's final.

Now a two-time Grand Slam winner, she will face Marie Bouzkova in the next round - someone she has never played on the WTA tour before.

The winners of that quarter-final will then face either Naomi Osaka or Halep's fellow Wimbledon finalist Serena Williams in the semis.
