A numbers' guide to achievements in women's sport - as opposed to politics - since the last General Election in 2017

As the country prepares for a General Election on December 12 - the third in only four years and less than 30 months since the last - women's sport continues to make rather more positive headlines than politics.

So in a bid to lift the Brexit blues and all things Westminster, we've put together a list of some of the stats and achievements that have been racked up since the last general election back on June 8, 2017.

And we start with what has been an incredibly competitive couple of years in women's tennis.

9 - Number of women's Grand Slam winners

Since Theresa May fell nine seats short of a majority in Parliament two and a half years ago, there have also been nine different women's Grand Slam winners.

Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka are the only two women to have won more than one Slam title since June 2017, while Serena Williams has gone two seasons without winning one for the first time since 2001.

It has been one of the most open era's with regards to multiple winners of tennis's major tournaments, something which cannot be said for the men's.

1 - Number of defeats Manchester City have suffered at home in the Women's Super League

Manchester City have lost just one home game in the Women's Super League in the corresponding 30 months.

Their only defeat came at the hands of Reading in April 2018 and since then they have gone on a run of 15 games unbeaten in the league.

The Blues also set a record attendance for the division earlier this season when they beat rivals Man United in front of more than 31,000 fans.

2,355 - Number of runs Alyssa Healy has scored in international cricket

Alyssa Healy has emerged as one of the very top batters in women's cricket over the past couple of years, breaking records in the process.

She has scored 2,355 runs in just 60 international matches for Australia and has been an integral part of the Aussies' one-day side which has set a new record for 18 consecutive victories.

Healy also personally made history in October when she posted the highest ever innings in a women's T20 match, hitting 148 to eclipse her teammate Meg Lanning's previous record by 15 runs.

772 - Number of points scored by New Zealand's women's rugby team

New Zealand's dominance in women's rugby eclipses that of the men, and that is saying something.

The All Blacks have won five of the last six women's Rugby World Cups, including 2017 when they beat England 41-32 in a thrilling final.

Since June 2017, they have scored nearly 800 points in 19 matches, averaging more than 40 points per game.

They have won 16 of those 19 games, with their only defeats coming against England and France twice.

4 - Number of world titles Katie Taylor has won

Katie Taylor's rise in women's boxing began shortly after the last election as she claimed the first of her four world titles in October 2017 against Anahi Ester Sanchez, beginning her road to the crown of undisputed.

After beating her by unanimous decision, the Irish star collected her second belt against Victoria Noelia Bustos in April 2018, and then a third in March of this year.

The final piece of the jigsaw came in New York in June against Belgian Delfine Persoon on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's bout with Andy Ruiz.

In an incredibly close fight, Taylor won a controversial majority decision to become just the third woman after Cecilia Braekhus and Claressa Shields to win the title of undisputed.

2 - Number of games women's rugby side Worcester have won in the Premier 15s

The last 29 months have not been kind to Premier 15s rugby team Worcester Warriors.

From a total of 42 matches, the West Midlands side have won just two games, drawn one and lost 39.

They have started the new season with six consecutive defeats, conceding a huge 270 points - an average of 45 per game.
