Former Wales captain and Celtic Dragons player Suzy Drane has announced her retirement from Superleague netball.

The mid-courter has left the Welsh franchise after 14 years with the club since it was first established in 2005.

She was part of the squad who qualified for the Fast5 All-Stars tournament for the first time in the club's history.

On her retirement the 32 year-old said: "This hasn’t been an easy decision for me, however I have other aspirations and desires in my life that I would like to explore and now feels like the right time to pursue these.

"I hope at some point in the future I can be involved in other capacities, but for now I wish the franchise and all those involved the best of luck for the seasons ahead."

Drane will continue to play netball for Bath Toucans in the English Premier League and will carry on competing in international netball.

She recently won her 100th cap for Wales during a summer test match against Grenada.

Welsh netball CEO Sarah Jones added: "Whilst I am sad that Suzy will no longer be playing for Celtic Dragons, I know that this has been a very difficult decision for her. The impact she has had on the game in Wales, and beyond, through our franchise cannot be measured."
