Chicago Red Stars midfielder Alyssa Mautz will not play for the foreseeable future due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

She sustained the injury to her left knee during training for the upcoming National Women’s Soccer League’s Challenge Cup which begins on June 27.

In a tweet the club said: “Alyssa, Chicago and the team are behind you - whatever you need.”

Mautz is a stalwart for the club and has played 124 times for them since the NWSL began in 2012.

Before the league was founded she played for the Red Stars in the Women’s Premier Soccer League Elite.
