Harlequins and Scotland rugby international Jade Konkel was proposed to by her girlfriend Helen Roberts on the same day she was planning to pop the question.

Konkel, who played in Quins' historic victory over Leinster on Saturday, took to Twitter to share her happy news.

The 26-year-old said: "Best way to say yes to a proposal? Whack out a ring and repeat the question because you planned the same proposal on the same day.... can’t believe she beat me to it but great minds think alike! ⠀ ⠀

"Best. Sunrise. Breakfast. EVER! With my fiancé...."

World Cup winner Tamara Taylor replied: "Congratulations", while Glasgow Warriors and Scottish international Adam Ashe wrote: "Many congratulations."

Two politicians also sent their congratulatory messages. SNP MSP Maree Todd and Scottish Conservative Annie Wells both replied to the player's tweet with 'congratulations'.

The news came a day after Konkel helped Harlequins defeat Leinster 47-26 at Twickenham for the first women's European match at English home of rugby.

It was also the first time the two sides had played each other and an estimated 7'000 people watched the match.
