Lyon have added a record ninth French Cup to their trophy cabinet after beating Paris Saint-Germain 4-3 on penalties.

The game, which starred England internationals Lucy Bronze, Nikita Parris and Jodie Taylor, had ended goalless.

Lyon’s scorers from the spot were Bronze, Amel Majri, Dzsenifer Marozsán and Wendie Renard.

On target for PSG were Nadia Nadim, Sara Däbritz and Signe Bruun.

Lyon’s keeper Sarah Bouhaddi saved the vital penalty from Lea Khelifi to secure the trophy for her side.

The fixture was played in front of a limited crowd of 5,000, due to Covid-19 restrictions, in the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps which has a capacity of just over 18,000.

The match was also stopped for ten minutes in the first half after the floodlights stopped working.

This is not Lyon’s first trophy of the season as they were also crowned champions of the French domestic league when it was cancelled due to the coronavirus in May. It was the club’s 14th consecutive title.

PSG and Lyon could face each other again in the Champions League at the end of the month. Lyon play Bayern Munich and PSG take on Arsenal in the quarter-finals.

The quarters, semis and final of the tournament will be finished from August 21-30 in Spain.
