Boris Johnson has announced tough new measures to fight the spread of coronavirus with a simple message to the nation - you must stay at home.

In a televised address to the nation he said from this evening people must stay at home unless shopping for basic necessities, collecting medical supplies, taking daily exercise or travelling to and from essential work.

He announced non essential shops - clothing and electrical goods - would be closed but at this stage parks would remain open for people to exercise.

However, people should not go out in groups of more than two and police would have the power to disperse larger gatherings.
