A man has been arrested and charged after turning up at an anti-racism protest in blackface.

The man, who has not been identified, attended the Black Lives Matter event in Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto having  painted his face black.

Toronto police said the man was arrested and charged with breaching the peace.

Protesters had thrown water at his face and could be heard telling him ’you gotta go’ before he was escorted away by the police.

As he was led away, he shouted: “Don't tell me go get a tan. I got a tan.

“If I want to put this on my face I can put this on my face.”
