US soccer stars Megan Rapinoe and Shannon Boxx feature alongside Lady Gaga in advert for International Women's Day

US soccer stars Megan Rapinoe and Shannon Boxx are featured in an advert to mark International Women's Day.

The advert for Apple, entitled 'Behind the Mac' looks at the people who are using their products and focuses on a series of inspirational women.

Apple released the video ahead of IWD on Sunday.

Stars such as singers Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys, actresses Elizabeth Banks and Olivia Wilde and activists Malala Yousafzai and Black Mamba, among others, feature alongside the sportswomen.

Apple disclosed the reason for the soccer stars' appearance in the description of the video, saying: "Megan Rapinoe and Shannon Boxx: World Cup champions fighting for equal pay."

The US team, who won the World Cup last summer, are currently suing their governing body US Soccer for equal pay with a trial date set in May.

The team are about to embark on their SheBelieves Cup campaign with their first match being against England (Friday, 12am GMT)
