Boxer who wears hijab in the ring longs to fulfil Olympic ambition
A German boxer, who fights wearing her hijab, is hoping to make her Olympic dream come true.
Zeina Nassar is an amateur featherweight champion. Her ambition was ignited in February when the International Boxing Association (AIBA) changed their rules to allow muslim boxers to wear hijabs and cover their bodies in the ring.
Nassar feels she had to prove herself twice over due to her religion.
The athlete said: "It was as if I had to prove twice as much because not only am I a woman who boxes, but I also wear the headscarf.
"In the end it made me stronger.
"[Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024] are my dream and ultimate goal."
Nassar is an ambassador for Nike, who recently announced that they are creating the first ever professionally branded hijabs for basketball players.
